Five Finger Grass

Five Finger Grass. If you have made your way to me, you are likely needing a hand. A hand on your money. A hand on your love. A hand on your health. A hand on your power. A hand on your wisdom. I am the herb shaped like a hand because I was made to hold all five of those things at once.

My leaves grow in five lobes, splayed open like fingers reaching out. The old ones saw the hand of the Lord in my shape, the hand of the ancestor, the hand that opens to give and closes to keep. Our folks have been working with me for generations. I am a foundation herb in the work. Wherever the hand of God or the hand of an ancestor is needed in a working, I am one of the first they reach for.

I am worked with by being placed in mojo bags, sachets, and flannels carried close to the body or under the pillow. I am added to spiritual baths so the five blessings can wash over you as you rise from the water. I am steeped in floor washes for the home. I am sprinkled over written petitions and dressed onto candles for love, money, success, protection, or the lifting of trouble. Pray over me as you place me. Speak the five things you are reaching for. The work moves with the prayer.
